Staying positive in the fall

With the warmth of summer behind us and the looming cold of winter, it is hard for many of us not to be affected by the darkening days. With less sun, shorter days and the chill in the air, many people find it harder to remain positive and focused, and indeed this is the season where depression can kick in. If this describes you then read on. Fall is not the end, and in fact, if you let it, it can be a season of fun and joy. Let me tell you how.

A big problem in the colder months is staying active. Most of us just want to curl up under a blanket in front of the fire with a good book or a long TV series. This is all well and good, and if this is what does it for you then go for it. Grab that steaming mug of hot chocolate and settle in for the long haul. Some of us though, prefer a more active lifestyle, which many feel is destroyed by the colder weather. But don’t let this get you down. A brisk stroll wrapped up in an army of scarves will still do wonders and get you going outside. The brisk air will stimulate circulation, and getting that blood flowing can make you feel alive and invigorated, helping to motivate you once you get back to the house.

Many people also think of the colder months as being dull and colourless. Spice up your wardrobe, grab that bright red coat and bring colour to a dull world. And then of course there are boots. Who doesn’t love a good pair of warm boots? Winter clothes are some of the best clothes out there, so get out and give them a spin and look good doing it.

With these simple tips you should soon see a change in your attitude, and of course there’s always a hot drink with a naughty bit of brandy dropped in to lighten the mood and warm you up.
